Principal areas of research:

1.  We are using  differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) to investigate the structural properties of the exchangeable apolipoproteins apo A and the three common isoforms of apo E, and to conduct a thermodynamic characterization of the interaction of these proteins with phospholipid.
2.  We are investigating the binding of amphiphiles to synthetic phospholipid vesicles using ITC and other physical techniques.  We are determining the effects of  curvature of the bilayer on the thermodynamic parameters that characterize the binding.  Our results, as well as the results of others, have suggested that binding of amphiphiles increases bilayer fluidity for larger vesicles.  We are interested in verifying this, and, if so, are membrane-related functions such as simple diffusion affected?
